London is home – both temporary and permanent – to millions of people.

It is perhaps the greatest city in the world and everyone who visits feels like, to some extent, it’s theirs.

But there are some things you only know if you’re a long-time Londoner; when you’ve suffered through countless commutes, explored every strangely named backstreet and seen it in every time of day, in every month of the year. These are things only true Londoners know.

1. Walking on Oxford Street is only for tourists and the fatally masochistic and there is nothing down there worth the crowds

2. Anything below £1250 per month in rent for a damp, windowless hovel the size of a small shoebox is a ‘bargain’

3. There is no greater mystery than the continued popularity of M&Ms World
